Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Authority of the County of Riverside’s Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waiting list closed effective 7/1/2023 to ALL except those meeting the Housing Authority of the County of Riverside’s First Level Preferences including eligible veterans, widows of veterans and those 70 years of age and older. This only applies to NEW registrations 7/1/23 or later. If you are already registered on the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waiting list, this does not apply to you and you may update your existing registration. The Project Based Voucher and Moderate Rehabilitation waiting lists will remain open.

The Section 8 rental voucher program provides rental assistance to help very low income families afford decent, safe, and sanitary rental housing.

These programs are administered by local public housing agencies (PHAs) authorized under State law to operate housing programs within an area or jurisdiction. The PHA accepts the application for rental assistance, selects the applicant for admission, and issues the selected family a rental voucher confirming the family’s eligibility for assistance.

The family must then find and lease a dwelling unit suitable to the family's needs and desires in the private rental market. The PHA pays the owner a portion of the rent (a housing assistance payment (HAP)) on behalf of the family.

Project Based Voucher Program

The Project-Based Program were developed to increase the number of affordable housing units to low-income families. Housing assistance is offered to eligible families who wish to live in privately owned multi-family developments that were upgraded or rehabilitated or newly constructed, or the owner agrees to set aside a portion of the units in an existing development.

The family must register on the waiting list of sites available in order to receive housing assistance under this program. At the time their name is drawn from the waiting list and determined eligible, a family is referred to the property manager for tenant screening If you pass the tenant screening, you will work with the manager to move into the Project Based Voucher Unit.
